The event is co-hosted by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in social and community contexts, Waterford Healing Arts Trust and Visual Artists Ireland and will take place in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health, Waterford.

Documenting Arts + Health is a peer based artists CPD suitable for artists of all disciplines who are working collaboratively in healthcare settings and are interested in exchanging and developing good documentation techniques to support their practice.

This day long CPD, which includes input from UK based artist Alison Kershaw (www.alison-kershaw.com), Irish artist, Cliona Harmey (www.clionaharmey.info), arts consultant Sarah Searson, Patrick Fox, Director of Create, Mary Grehan and Claire Meaney of the Waterford Healing Arts Trust, as well as peer discussion, will cover the ethical responsibilities around documenting arts and health practice, media available for documenting your work, mediation – how work reads in different contexts; application, web, publications etc.

Admission: €30 including lunch

Outline of the Day

Aim: This is a peer based artist’s clinic suitable for artists who are interested in exchanging and developing good techniques which support their practice and documenting artwork produced in healthcare contexts.

No of participants: 10 people max

10.00 - 10.20 Coffee and welcomes

10.20 - 10.40  Mary Grehan: setting the context
Patrick Fox: documenting process, product, dissemination and evaluation. Ethical responsibility of working in an arts and health context
Claire Meaney: using artsandhealth.ie – case studies, perspectives, resources, news and examples of best practice

10.40 - 11.30  Cliona Harmey: practical workshop working with images, sound and video

11.40 - 1.20 Alison Kershaw, a Manchester based visual artist: documenting her practice

1.20 - 2.00  Lunch

2.00 - 2.40 Sarah Searson: mediating your work, how context matters – focus on writing

2.40 - 4.00  Documentation Clinic: one-on-one advice from presenters and peers in speed dating format.

4.00 - 4.40 Wrap-up discussion with all artists – led by Mary Grehan.
    
Learning outcomes: 

 – The ethical responsibilities of documenting arts and health practice
 – Good practice, hints and tips and using media available for documenting your work
 – Mediation – how your work reads in different contexts; application, web, publications etc
 – Peer discussion, a chance to talk about your work - a chance to raise issues.

NOTE: Participants are expected to bring examples of funding, project, and or exhibition proposals. If participants have publications and websites they should bring this material too.
