In 2010 dance practitioner Ríonach Ní Néill was awarded the Arts Council's Artist in the Community Scheme Arts and Older People Bursary Award. This was the first Bursary Award provided through the Scheme managed by Create to provide an artist with the time and resources to think, research, reflect and engage with collaborative practice with older people.

In this the public talk, Ríonach Ní Néill will discuss the action research programme she undertook as the Bursary Award Recipient addressing how dance practitioners can reconsider collaborative dance practice with older people and how this practice produces and results in new forms of artistic knowledge.

Ríonach Ní Néill is a dancer and choreographer who for the last number of years has been exploring the theme of dance and older people through specific performance and work programmes. Ríonach often integrates professional and non-vocational artists in her work. She believes that "dance can be a form of civic dialogue, creating spaces for us to engage with one another and our surroundings, provoke reflection and allow us to imagine ourselves and others differently."
