Artist in the Community Scheme Second Round 2016

Create is delighted to announce the successful applicants to the Second Round of the Artist in the Community Scheme in 2016. Create manages the Scheme on behalf of the Arts Council. Seven applicants were successful under the Research and Development phase, four with mentors, and six applicants were successful for Project Realisation, securing funding of up to 10,000 for long term projects.

Katherine Atkinson at Create, who provides project support and advice to artists and groups applying to the Artist in the Community Scheme, says:

“The Scheme has become increasingly competitive in the last number of years, with applications coming from a great cross section of artists across artform, with an emphasis and interest in exploring complex and challenging ideas about art and society in 21st century Ireland.”

In this application Round, film came to the fore, with groups successfully proposing to work on diverse themes with film makers Treasa O’Brien, Caroline Campbell and Jimmy Smallhorne. The context areas of cultural diversity, arts and health and arts and disability are also well represented in project thematics. The funding of these projects for communities and interest groups will mean that diverse publics across Ireland will engage with artists to create a broad range of participatory artwork, increasing access and involvement in the arts for local communities.
