In 2010 artists Sheelagh Broderick and Marie Brett were awarded the Connect Arts and Health Mentoring Award. Sheelagh Broderick (mentee) and Marie Brett (mentor) will discuss mentoring as a process and space for shared learning.

Over a period of six months, Sheelagh and Marie undertook a mentoring partnership to explore skills development and a framework for critical reflection on Arts and Health practice. In this talk they will discuss how mentoring has informed their practice and provided fresh considerations on Arts and Health as a specific contemporary arts practice and context for work.

As part of the event Justine Foster, Education and Community Co-ordinator, West Cork Arts Centre will announce the 2011 Arts and Health Mentoring Award, as part of the Dialogues Arts and Health series.

Background: Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in social and community contexts, in partnership with Common Ground, a local arts organisation based in Dublin, undertook an 18 month action research project, to explore mentoring and develop a learning resource – The Connect Mentoring Programme (book and DVD). As part of the Arts Council funded initiative, Create and Common Ground provided a mentoring award for Arts and Health practitioners to support and facilitate peer learning and professional skills development.

Dialogues Arts & Health is regionally based artists’ peer learning initiative including a series of Peer-to-Peer Dialogues; a Mentoring Award and a National Exchange Day for practitioners working in Arts & Health contexts. The project is managed by the Arts & Health Coordinators Ireland (AHCI) in partnership with the Association of Local Authorities Arts Officers and is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.

Please note all attendees will receive a copy of the Connect Mentoring Programme.
